  • 1. Namor (Polynesian) – Racial Draft Season 5

The reimagining of Namor as Polynesian is as follows:

In this reimagining he is the mutant son of a Māori woman. His father is a warrior from Ngāti Tangaroa- The tribe of the God of the ocean, Tangaroa! This tribe lives on a sunken island kingdom somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. Here is a depiction of Tangaroa, god of the ocean. A Māori Namor could follow a similar aesthetic.

Also this reimagined Namor would have mataora, or full facial tattoo, which would depict his genealogy, status, achievements and destiny.
    Here is an example:

And for their fancast, the Polynesian delegation chooses Māori actor Antonio Te Maioha.

  • 51. Monica Rambeau (Polynesian Delegation) – Racial Draft Season 2

The new backstory for Monica Rambeau — as per Tamati — is as follows:

“The world of light rises, above a world left behind.”
    – ‘Shining Over There’

Monica ‘Marama’ Rambeau was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to an American father and Maori mother.

She grew up with her American family. She felt no close connection with her Maori family. Her darker skin and inability to speak Maori made her stand out and apart from her people.

There was a perception within Maori culture that being fair-skinned equaled beauty. She was aware of this as a child, but only as an adult was she able to name it as ‘colourism.’

She sadly realised Maori communities weren’t immune from colonised intra-cultural ideas of beauty.

Her mother named her Monica ‘Marama’ (Mah-rah-mah). The name has many meanings, but she chose it, as it could mean ‘bright light.’ She would sing a song to her to remind her that she is the ‘bright light of the world.’ Monica would hear her mother’s voice echo in her mind in tough times.

Following in the footsteps of her father, she enlisted in the Navy. She would rise to the rank of lieutenant in the US Navy and served as the ship’s captain. The US Government had been experimenting on weaponizing extra-dimensional energy. She captained the naval ship that hosted a mobile research facility. Marama was accidentally exposed to this energy after the containment facilities failed. As a result, she gained abilities that enabled her to convert her body to various forms of energy and light. In addition, she is also able to absorb, store, and use energy.

She came to the attention of the Avengers, eventually becoming a member. Marama used this time to support the team and master her new powers. She formed a close friendship with Carol Danvers, Captain Marvel. Over time, Carol imprinted a powerful energy signature on her. So immense was this signature that it remained a part of her for many years.

The Avengers, via Tony Stark, were made aware of the multi-universal threat of Kang The Conqueror. In preparation for this, Thor, Storm, and Rogue were brought in to strengthen the ranks.

Similar to her friendship with Captain Marvel, Marama became close with Rogue. Their connection was through their shared experiences of disconnection from their people.

In a display of her powers, Rogue touched her and siphoned memories, power of flight, durability and strength. The difference this time was that the powers stayed with Rogue. She realised she had absorbed the imprinted powers of Captain Marvel.

Monica asked what else she absorbed. Rogue turned and said, “I absorbed a memory. Marama, whatever you do, remember that you’re the ‘bright light of the world.’”

  • 40. Kang the Conqueror (Polynesian Delegation) – Racial Draft Season 2

Kang the Conqueror’s new backstory — as per Tamati — is as follows:

“History is made! Made by the deeds of the strong! The brave! And destiny is forged!”

Ake (Ah-keh) is the son of the god Tane (Tah-neh) and a human woman by the name of Hine (Hee-neh). Because of his heritage he is immortal, with the ability to see through realities and time.

His father is the God of Nature and protector of humankind. Tane’s greatest feat was separating the heavens and earth to create our world.

Seeing the feats of his father, he desired to be special, to conquer and rule a world of his own.

His father taught him incantations to traverse through time and space.

Ake used these to travel into the future. He first travelled to the year 8233 where he encountered Celestials, where he acquired their armour and technology. Then he set about using it to travel back throughout time and realities. He conquered as he went.

Wherever he went he was worshipped as a God. He used his tech and knowledge to rule, build empires, and instigate countless wars. He foresaw empires rise and fall. Some he intervened. Others he did not. He saw whole realities where colonisation never happened and the people flourished.

He was known by many names, but he chose to be known as Kang the Conqueror!

In our time he observed superhuman beings who protected their people.

What he didn’t know was that Tony Stark had been tracking him and his movements. Tony saw him as an imminent threat to our time and reality.

Storm knew of Ake through the stories passed down through her people. She saw him as a coloniser of time, a tyrant, indifferent to the suffering of people. He had the power to change history and protect, but chose war and chaos.

Stark, Storm, and other protectors of Earth vowed to battle Ake across time and space. To thwart his endless and eternal quest to conquer.

    AKE!…KANG THE CONQUEROR!

The Polynesian delegation has also provided a fancast: Samoan actor Joe Naufahu to play Ake/Kang
