  • 51. Monica Rambeau (Polynesian Delegation) – Racial Draft Season 2

The new backstory for Monica Rambeau — as per Tamati — is as follows:

“The world of light rises, above a world left behind.”
    – ‘Shining Over There’

Monica ‘Marama’ Rambeau was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to an American father and Maori mother.

She grew up with her American family. She felt no close connection with her Maori family. Her darker skin and inability to speak Maori made her stand out and apart from her people.

There was a perception within Maori culture that being fair-skinned equaled beauty. She was aware of this as a child, but only as an adult was she able to name it as ‘colourism.’

She sadly realised Maori communities weren’t immune from colonised intra-cultural ideas of beauty.

Her mother named her Monica ‘Marama’ (Mah-rah-mah). The name has many meanings, but she chose it, as it could mean ‘bright light.’ She would sing a song to her to remind her that she is the ‘bright light of the world.’ Monica would hear her mother’s voice echo in her mind in tough times.

Following in the footsteps of her father, she enlisted in the Navy. She would rise to the rank of lieutenant in the US Navy and served as the ship’s captain. The US Government had been experimenting on weaponizing extra-dimensional energy. She captained the naval ship that hosted a mobile research facility. Marama was accidentally exposed to this energy after the containment facilities failed. As a result, she gained abilities that enabled her to convert her body to various forms of energy and light. In addition, she is also able to absorb, store, and use energy.

She came to the attention of the Avengers, eventually becoming a member. Marama used this time to support the team and master her new powers. She formed a close friendship with Carol Danvers, Captain Marvel. Over time, Carol imprinted a powerful energy signature on her. So immense was this signature that it remained a part of her for many years.

The Avengers, via Tony Stark, were made aware of the multi-universal threat of Kang The Conqueror. In preparation for this, Thor, Storm, and Rogue were brought in to strengthen the ranks.

Similar to her friendship with Captain Marvel, Marama became close with Rogue. Their connection was through their shared experiences of disconnection from their people.

In a display of her powers, Rogue touched her and siphoned memories, power of flight, durability and strength. The difference this time was that the powers stayed with Rogue. She realised she had absorbed the imprinted powers of Captain Marvel.

Monica asked what else she absorbed. Rogue turned and said, “I absorbed a memory. Marama, whatever you do, remember that you’re the ‘bright light of the world.’”

  • 40. Kang the Conqueror (Polynesian Delegation) – Racial Draft Season 2

Kang the Conqueror’s new backstory — as per Tamati — is as follows:

“History is made! Made by the deeds of the strong! The brave! And destiny is forged!”

Ake (Ah-keh) is the son of the god Tane (Tah-neh) and a human woman by the name of Hine (Hee-neh). Because of his heritage he is immortal, with the ability to see through realities and time.

His father is the God of Nature and protector of humankind. Tane’s greatest feat was separating the heavens and earth to create our world.

Seeing the feats of his father, he desired to be special, to conquer and rule a world of his own.

His father taught him incantations to traverse through time and space.

Ake used these to travel into the future. He first travelled to the year 8233 where he encountered Celestials, where he acquired their armour and technology. Then he set about using it to travel back throughout time and realities. He conquered as he went.

Wherever he went he was worshipped as a God. He used his tech and knowledge to rule, build empires, and instigate countless wars. He foresaw empires rise and fall. Some he intervened. Others he did not. He saw whole realities where colonisation never happened and the people flourished.

He was known by many names, but he chose to be known as Kang the Conqueror!

In our time he observed superhuman beings who protected their people.

What he didn’t know was that Tony Stark had been tracking him and his movements. Tony saw him as an imminent threat to our time and reality.

Storm knew of Ake through the stories passed down through her people. She saw him as a coloniser of time, a tyrant, indifferent to the suffering of people. He had the power to change history and protect, but chose war and chaos.

Stark, Storm, and other protectors of Earth vowed to battle Ake across time and space. To thwart his endless and eternal quest to conquer.

    AKE!…KANG THE CONQUEROR!

The Polynesian delegation has also provided a fancast: Samoan actor Joe Naufahu to play Ake/Kang

  • 33. Rogue (Polynesian Delegation) – Racial Draft Season 2

Rogue’s new backstory — as per Tamati — is as follows:

Ara Marie was born into a large Maori family. She was the youngest of 15. Under the ‘Vulnerable Children’s Act’ she was uplifted from her family. She later found that the reason for her uplift was because she was ‘white passing’ and it was deemed that she would be a better ‘fit’ in a white family.

She never returned to her birth family and was disconnected from her culture.

Her powers to absorb memories, abilities and powers manifested in her teen years. She would use her powers to connect with other Maori. With a touch she would get a glimpse into what her life could’ve been. She found that this made her resentful and deepened her disconnection.

Ara was aware that her white passing enabled her to avoid racism, levelled at Maori and POC around her. She never felt enough to stand up for her own.

The first time she encountered a mutant (his power was pyrokinesis) she held on for too long and knocked him unconscious. This frightened her.

On a field trip to the west coast of her island, she had a chance encounter. She greeted someone and immediately felt power surge through her, she also got flashes of a Maori goddess who flew on the winds. She had met a tribal member of the Urukehu. The woman she had seen was Te Uira/ Storm.

Ara would eventually find Storm, who would bring her into her tribe, help her control and understand the potential of her power. Importantly she would connect with her identity. Storm would tell her, “you must always remember that you are Māori and your ancestors are with you. You will always be ‘enough.’”

Ara would fight alongside Storm and encounter mutants, super-powered people, gods and other sentient beings. She was now anchored to her ancestors, people and identity. No matter what or who she absorbed she had found her purpose.

    Ara Marie- ROGUE”

They have also provided a fancast — Māori actress Raukura Turei.

  • 22. Iron Man (Polynesian Delegation) – Racial Draft Season 2

Iron Man’s new backstory — as per Tamati — is as follows:

“We are ocean people….we are all comrades ….everyone now who is native, is fighting back and it’s an insurgency….The whole ocean area needs to be liberated!”

    – Haunani Kay Trask

Tony Stark is a descendant of industrialist Jansen Stark, who funded the overthrow of the Hawaiian Monarchy in 1893.

Jansen Stark married a Hawaiian ali’i by the name of Maluhia Kalakaua. This makes Tony Kanaka Maoli (true/native people of Hawai’i).

Over five generations the Stark family built their wealth on land investments (owning much of Hawai’i), science and military tech for the US. They are one of the richest families in the world.

Tony Stark, a genius, inherited the family business. He seeded the most advanced military tech all over the world.

His life changed when the testing of new military weapons on the island of Kaho’olawe went disastrously.

Tony was caught in the blast which knocked him into a coma, a piece of shrapnel lodged in his heart.

During his coma his ancestor Maluhia visited him and told him to take the path of ‘ea’ (independence) and ‘kuleana’ (responsibility) to his people.

When he awoke, he had changed. He developed tech to keep the shrapnel from his heart. He returned the lands on Hawai’i back to Kanaka. Provided health, education and employment. This eased the crippling homelessness problems for Kanaka in the Kingdom.

He developed the ‘Kanaka Homecoming’ fund. This was to reach out to the Hawaiian diaspora, to provide homes and support to come back to Hawai’i.

Outside of Hawai’i, he used his resources and tech to protect and unite the people of Polynesia.

His greatest tech masterpiece was the creation of the ‘Iron Man’ suit. Developed to defend, protect and keep the peace.

He wanted to build a team to protect and prevent future threats.

He monitored super powered people in Aotearoa fighting and beating giants. These were potential allies.

He set on his new path, to defend and protect the world.

    Tony ‘Maluhia/Peace’ Stark- Iron Man.

The Polynesian Delegation has also provided a fancast. The fancast for Tony Stark is MMA fighter Kendall Grove.

  • 15. Storm (Polynesian Delegation) – Racial Draft Season 2

Storm’s new backstory — as per Tamati — is as follows:

    TE UIRA/STORM:

“Hikohiko te Uira, haruru te whaititiri”

“The flash of lightning, the rumbling of thunder”

The Urukehu are descendants of an ancestor ‘Urukehu’. Traditions say she was the first to be given the power to control the weather. This power was given to her by the god Tawhirimatea.

It’s told that a descendant would come who would channel and control the full powers of Tawhirimatea himself.

Over many millennia the Urukehu remained hidden, choosing to stay away from conflict. Even as colonisation ravaged people around them.

Te Uira from birth demonstrated abilities far surpassing others of her tribe. Her moods dictated the weather. She honed her skills to enable her to channel lightning, winds and rain. Her control was such that she could fly with the winds.

With encouragement, she traveled the world. Te Uira used her powers where she could to break droughts and avert climate disasters. She even encountered and nourished a sentient living island.

She returned home with a newfound purpose, to use her powers to protect people.

This culminated in her battling alongside the god Thor against invading giants. During the battle she wielded Mjolnir. She connected with the hammer, because like her, it channeled and controlled the power of a god.

Thor said in Asgard she would be a Goddess. Te Uira said her place was here in this world. If needed she would support Thor and others who served to protect.

Footage of the battle surfaced across various platforms on social media. It was here that Te Uira would be given a new name…Storm. A name she would adopt for future adventures.

    Te Uira/Storm ⛈

  • 4. Thor (Polynesian Delegation) – Racial Draft Season 2

(Polynesian) Thor’s new backstory — as per Tamati — is as follows:

“Whakataka te hau ki te uru, whakataka te hau ki te tonga. Kia mākinakina ki uta, Kia mātaratara ki tai.”

“Get ready for the westerly to turn into a southerly. Making it prickly cold inland, and piercingly cold on the shore.”

The battle in Jotunheim with the Frost Giants raged on. Thor, battle weary, continued to fight, with the singular purpose of stopping them from conquering other realms.

Suddenly they retreated. A giant portal opened and they all vanished inside. Thor was left alone on a scorched battlefield.

With the help of Heimdall he tracked them to Midgard (Earth). They had landed on the west coast of one of the northern islands of Aotearoa/New Zealand.

They were battling with people in the shadow of the mountain Taranaki.

Thor…paused. He noticed these people were fighting the Frost Giants using thunder and lightning!

He would later find that these people were the Urukehu, the descendants of the Māori god of thunder, lightning and wind, Tawhirimatea.

Thor joined the battle. At one point Mjolnir was knocked from his grasp. The leader of the tribe, a woman by the name of Te Uira, picked up the hammer, channeled the full power of her people, and fired a devastating lightning bolt that decimated the giants.

With the battle ended, Thor vowed to always stay connected to this tribe. Te Uira said if Thor ever needed help, the Urukehu would be there.

Thor was given the title ‘Te Whaititiri’. The personification of ‘Thunder’!!!

    Thor/Te Whaititiri.
