  • 68. Green Arrow (Latinx Delegation) – Racial Draft Season 2

Green Arrow’s new backstory — as per Martin Sanchez — is as follows:

Olivar Reina was a bit of a wild child growing up. But it was hard for him not to be as he was the heir to Reina Industries, a billion dollar corporate dynasty. As a teen, he partied, crashed cars, got into fights, among other things. And after every time he would do something like this, he would always get the same lecture from his Guatemalan father, Roberto: “I worked hard to get us to where we are now. And you seem to be trying to ruin every bit of good faith I have built in this city. Every time you do something this stupid, you give us all a bad name.”

Unfortunately, everything his dad said would go in one ear and out the other, and Olivar would continue his ways into adulthood. One day while partying on his private boat in the Pacific Ocean, a storm hit, and while everyone else was perfectly safe, Olivar was knocked off his boat. He eventually landed on an island where he would have to hunt to survive. Remembering the archery skills his father insisted on teaching him (which he mostly ended up using as party tricks), Olivar decided to make a bow and arrows to aid him in his survival. 6 months into his isolation, he discovered on the other side of the island was a drug smuggling ring, and he took it upon himself to take it down.

After successfully stopping the bad guys, he used their radio to get into contact with the authorities so he could be rescued. Upon his return to Star City as a changed man, Olivar gave up his former ways, to an extent. He started fighting for social justice as the new head of Reina Industries, but that was not the only kind of fighting he would do. Quite enjoying the feeling he got when stopping those criminals, Olivar donned a green costume, inspired by legendary figure Robin Hood, and he took to the streets of Star City as the Emerald Archer, the Green Arrow.

The Latinx delegation has also provided a fancast: Josh Segarra, who technically already played a version of Green Arrow on the CW.

  • 59. Blade (Latinx Delegation) – Racial Draft Season 2

Blade’s new backstory — as per Martin Sanchez — is as follows:

“In 1922, Lucio Cruz was a member of the Cuban division of the Order of Tyrana, a secret society that specializes in Vampires, along with other occult matters. After he got on the wrong side of a high-ranking vampire member of organized crime, who hated Lucio mostly because he was Afro-Cuban, Lucio insisted his pregnant wife, Teresa, flee to Mexico while he dealt with the aftermath.

Once arriving in Mexico, Teresa took on the pseudonym “Vanessa Bracero” and met up with the owner of a brothel, Esmerelda, whom Lucio asked to shelter his wife. She went into labor during her time in Mexico, experiencing complications during the process. She was forced to seek a doctor’s assistance. Unfortunately for her, her doctor was secretly a vampire. He feasted on her as she gave birth, which altered her baby into a Dhampir, a half-human, half-vampire hybrid. Esmerelda was able to chase the vampire away before he could do anything to the child. That child became known as Enrique “Erik” Bracero and was raised at Esmerelda’s brothel.

Now a pre-teen, Erik comes into contact with an American vampire slayer. The American had heard tales of a nest of vampires who own and operate a strip club built on top of a partially buried Aztec temple, and have been luring bikers and truckers in before feasting on them. The vampire slayer found out about Erik’s origins and offered to take him under his wing, which Erik gladly accepted, sensing a way to one day avenge his mother’s murder. Due to being a Dhampir, Erik possessed a superhuman physiology, making him the perfect vampire hunter.

Now, thanks to his prolonged lifespan, he continues the good fight into the modern day, occasionally offering his assistance to other heroes he meets along the way. But his main goals are still the same: avenge his mother’s death and rid the world of all vampires.”

  • 50. Knull (Latinx Delegation) – Racial Draft Season 2

Knull’s new backstory — as per Martin Sanchez and Carlos Freytes — is as follows:

We exist in the fifth iteration of this world, created when the Aztec god Huitzilopochtli (Weet-see-lo-poached-lee) became the Fifth Sun. Much is known of the four Suns and worlds that came before our own. However, nothing is known of the time between Suns, in the void between creations. This is Knull’s dominion.

Knull came into existence after the destruction of the first world and the fall of the first Sun, a byproduct of the creation of the Abyss between epochs. While the Aztec gods struggled to decide who would become the next Sun and repopulate the world in their image, Knull ruled alone over the Abyss. It is for this reason that Knull’s nemesis is Life itself. After repeating this cycle through three more Suns, Knull decided to prematurely launch the universe back into darkness. Taking a page from the Tzitzimimeh (Zee-zee-me-meh), the female deities associated with the stars, and their sister Coyolxauhqui (Koy-ol-shauw-kee), the moon goddess, who all despise their brother Huitzipochtli (Weet-see-lo-poached-lee) for shining brighter than them, Knull decided to attack the sun god.

His attempt was thwarted by the stars, who wished to kill Huitzipochtli themselves. In a rage, Knull used Tliltocatl, his Necromacuahuitl, to cut one of the Tzitzimemeh’s heads off. Word of Knull’s crimes spread almost instantaneously, so with the combined power of the brothers Huitzipochtli (Weet-see-lo-poached-lee), Quetzalcoatl (Ket-Sal-Ko-Ah-Tl), Xipe Totec (Zi-pe-to-tek), and Tezcatlipoca (Tes-Cat-Li-Po-Ca), the four most venerated gods, Knull was banished to the far reaches of the universe. Using the blood from the severed head, along with dark energy from the Abyss, Knull created the beings known as Symbiotes, and began making his way back home, taking out any being that got in his way. Armed with Tliltocatl the Necromacuahuitl and his legion of symbiotes, Knull’s goal is to wreak vengeance on the gods, along with their precious humans, and end creation forever.

  • 41. Kendra Saunders – Hawkgirl (Latinx Delegation) – Racial Draft Season 2

Kendra Saunders’ new backstory — as per Martin Sanchez — is as follows:

Kendra Sanchez was born to Dominican-American couple Miguel and Trina Sanchez (née Munoz) in Austin, Texas. Unfortunately, she didn’t really get a chance to know them, as they were both slain by a corrupt cop while she was still a child. She went to go live with her grandfather Cesar Sanchez, a former OSS agent and retired private investigator.

Cesar knew something about Kendra that she was not aware of yet; she has lived countless lives. The first was as Chay-Ara, an Egyptian princess, and the most recent life as Shiera Sanchez, his cousin and the first one of her past lives to go by the superhero mantle of Hawkgirl.

Cesar knew that when Kendra was ready, she would have to take up the mantle of Hawkgirl. And while she may be ready mentally, as all of the memories of her past lives will come back to her, she needs to be ready physically as well. So he trains her in all the basic skills she’ll need to become Hawkgirl. Kendra didn’t think this was too weird. She just thought her abuelo was teaching her to defend herself.

It wasn’t until one day that it all hit her…literally. One day after her classes in film school, she was driving home and got into an accident. It was at that moment that her past lives made themselves known to her. Cesar could tell his granddaughter was ready to become Hawkgirl the moment she came home and he saw her eyes. That was years ago. Now, she lives a double life. One moment, she is famed adventurer Kendra Sanchez. The next, she is the winged superhero, Hawkgirl.

The Latinx delegation has also provided a fancast: Zoe Saldana.

  • 32. Red Hood (Latinx Delegation) – Racial Draft Season 2

Jason Todd’s new backstory — as per Martin Sanchez — is as follows:

Jason Torres had a hard time growing up. His parents, Catrina and Wilfredo, would argue all the time, his mother suffered from depression and drug addiction, and his criminal father would always teach him about thieving and conning, whether he wanted to learn or not. His dad was a bit of a pessimist, and after being turned away from employment opportunities from countless businesses, he started believing, “If that’s how they see us, we might as well give them what they want.” He hammered that idea into Jason’s impressionable mind.

Eventually, Jason’s dad would wind up in prison, where he was promptly killed, and his mom would die soon after. Jason was by himself, but not for long. After one fateful night where he tried his luck and steal the tires off the Batmobile, he encountered Batman.

Instead of being mad, Batman had another thought. Much like with his previous Robin, Dick, Bruno knew that without proper guidance, the anger he saw in Jason might land him in a lot more trouble. He decided to take Jason under his wing, and the young Latino would go on to become the new Robin, but his aggression was always present.

His time as Robin only lasted a few years, before his life was cut short by the deranged Clown Prince of Crime, the Joker. The criminal lured him into a trap by revealing he was the one responsible for what happened to Jason’s parents. Batman could do nothing to stop Jason, and couldn’t save him. But this was not the end of Jason’s story. After nearly a year, he was resurrected by Talia al Ghul, who’s been paying special attention to Batman and those closest to him. Talia put him into the Lazarus Pit and she became almost like a surrogate mother for him. She took him to get training from a group of warrior monks known as the All-Caste, who encouraged him to let go of his rage.

After his years of training, he did consider doing that, but then he heard that the Joker is still wreaking havoc in Gotham, despite all that he has done. Jason decided that the only way for him to let go of his rage is by taking it out on the criminal filth that has ruined his hometown, especially if it’s the Joker. He donned the moniker Red Hood, headed back home, and started delivering his own brand of gun-toting justice. When Jason came face-to-face with his adoptive dad, Batman disapproved of his use of firearms. This would lead to a bit of animosity between the two. Eventually, Bruno decided that Jason is still his son, so he can rejoin the Bat Family, even if he doesn’t always agree with his actions.

The Latinx delegation has also provided a fancast: David Castañeda.

  • 23. Catwoman (Latinx Delegation) – Racial Draft Season 2

Catwoman’s new backstory — as per Martin Sanchez — is as follows:

Selina Calderon is the older daughter of Benjamín and Maria Calderon, and the older sister of Magdalena “Maggie” Calderon. Following the death of their parents, Selina knew that Cuba was not a good place for her and her baby sister, so she manages to blend herself and Maggie with another family as they come to America during the Mariel boatlift, the mass immigration of Cubans to the United States that took place from April 1980-October 1980. Now officially Cuban refugees in America, Selina thought that Miami was not the safest place either, following the riots that took place in May of 1980. So, she takes her sister and heads north, relying on pickpocketing and shoplifting to provide for her sister.

After a few years, the sisters arrive in Gotham, and if it wasn’t for Maggie insisting that they stay put for a while, Selina would have taken her sister out of that place as soon as they got there. It’s not long before the two come to grow fond of Gotham, however, and despite its many issues, they decide to stay. After hearing about a thing called a “GED,” Selina starts educating herself and Maggie so that they wouldn’t have to go to school and have people find out they are growing up on the streets of Gotham. The responsibility of providing still falls squarely on her shoulders.

Years go by, and Selina has upgraded from purely pickpocketing to burglary as well. Burglary proves to be highly lucrative for Selina, and quite easy for her as it would seem. A few more years go by, and now, officially an adult, Selina becomes her sister’s legal guardian. Over the years of money management, she is able to rent a small apartment. Selina continues to steal to support herself, her sister, and her sister’s education, along with the fact that she kind of enjoys thieving. One night, she encounters a young man in a makeshift costume, who tries to stop her. He does not succeed.

Around the time that the young man would become Batman, Selina coincidentally has the idea to become the costumed thief Catwoman. After multiple encounters with Batman and after Bruce and Selina discover each other’s secret identities, the two grow incredibly close, embarking on an on-again, off-again relationship. This relationship with the vigilante does not completely stop Selina from the occasional theft here and there, though.

The Latinx Delegation has also provided a fancast. The fancast for Selina Calderon is Eva Mendes.

  • 14. Harley Quinn (Latinx Delegation) – Racial Draft Season 2

Harley Quinn’s new backstory — as per Martin and Carlos — is as follows:

Harleen Francia Quinzel was born to Nicolas Quinzel, the descendant of Jewish immigrants who fled to Mexico to escape the Nazis, and Susana Quinzel (née Reyna), a young woman who grew up with “Nick” in Jiquilpan. When they discovered Susana was pregnant with their first child, a daughter, they decided they owed it to her to give her a chance at a better life. They came to the United States in search of opportunity. What they found was Gotham.

Harleen was the oldest of their 4 children, and their only daughter, Susana, quickly found work housekeeping at the Falcone Hotel and Casino. Nick had a harder time finding gainful employment. With the bills piling up and mouths to feed, Nick found himself in the employ of the Falcone family’s less legitimate enterprises. Harleen had her own job, though unpaid, taking care of her brothers. Even so, Harleen excelled in school and found herself college bound on a Diaz scholarship to Gotham State University. Harleen was living the better life her parents had sought for her.

But as happens all too often, Gotham giveth, and Gotham taketh away.

Nick was arrested in a college basketball point shaving scandal at Gotham State. As a result, Harleen was barred from competing in gymnastics at GSU. Nick was murdered in prison when rumors arose that he might have turned state’s evidence against the Falcone family. Susana and Harleen’s three brothers were deported back to Mexico, but as a Diaz scholar, and because of the strings her benefactors at the Diaz Foundation were able to pull, Harleen was allowed to stay.

Harleen made good, excelling at school and becoming a psychiatrist. Perhaps it was because of her father’s line of work and the ultimate cause of his death, but Harleen found herself drawn to the criminal mind. When the opportunity arose, and even though it didn’t pay as well as opportunities in Metropolis or Central City, Harleen jumped at the chance to work at Arkham. It was there that she met someone who would change her life forever, a John Doe sociopath with a violent streak and a flair for the dramatic. With his refusal to divulge his real name and her refusal to indulge him by calling him by the moniker for which he was infamous, a compromise was met at the title of “Mr. J.”

Sociopaths are adept at 2 things: mimicking emotion and identifying and exploiting the weaknesses of other people. Harleen, alone in the world and more vulnerable than she realized, fell for Mr. J hook, line, and sinker. To her, they were a modern-day Bonnie & Clyde. To him, she was a ticket out of Arkham.

After making their way to Ace Chemicals, evading both Gotham PD and the Batman, Joker threw Harleen into a vat of chemicals in an attempted murder. What crawled out of the toxic stew was Harley Quinn — part murderous psychopath, part promising psychiatrist, part anti-hero here to seek revenge on the underworld who took her family from her.

You do not want to get on her bad side. She may be a petite blonde with porcelain skin, but never, ever tell her she doesn’t look Mexican. You won’t like the results.

The Latinx delegation has also provided a fancast. Sara Paxton. Because who better to play a fair skin, blonde, Mexican-American woman with Jewish ancestry than a fair skin, blonde, Mexican-American woman with Jewish ancestry.

  • 5. Batman (Latinx Delegation) – Racial Draft Season 2

(Latinx) Batman’s new backstory — as per Martin Sanchez — is as follows:

“A young Puerto Rican by the name of Bruno Diaz is walking out of the theater in Gotham City, New Jersey after watching a Zorro movie. He is accompanied by his aristocratic parents, Tomás and Martha. His father comes from old money and is the descendant of Spanish aristocracy. They head into an alley and are held up by an unknown assailant. His parents are shot, leaving him an orphan.

After deciding to seek vengeance for his fallen parents, Bruno trains his body and mind to the the peak of human conditioning and masters numerous martial arts. He uses his keen intellect and detective prowess to track down his parents’ killer all these years after. That’s when he discovers they were the target of an assassination. The hit was placed on them by other members of Gotham’s elite.

Taking a cue from his childhood hero, Zorro, Bruno takes on a double life, one as Bruno Diaz, the genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist of Gotham, and the other as Batman, the protector of Gotham who swears to protect the people from those with power who would abuse it. He knows what it feels like to feel powerless and weak, and he’s going to do everything in his power to prevent the people of Gotham from feeling like that. Whether those people abusing their power are Gotham’s elite (also known as La Orden Del Buhó/The Order of the Owl), criminals, or even the police themselves, they should all fear crossing … the Batman.

Art done by the Latinx Delegation’s own Carlos Freytes.

The Latinx Delegation has also provided a fancast. The fancast for Bruno Diaz is Adam Rodriguez.”
