49. Reed Richards – Mister Fantastic (Latinx) – S6 Racial Draft

The reimagined #RacialDraft backstory for Latino Reed Richards is as follows:

Reed Richards was born to one of Brazil’s wealthiest familes. A genius like his father Nathaniel, Reed was noted for his unlimited yet untapped potential, as he bounced around the most prestigious boarding schools in the world.

Fed up with his son’s aloof nature, Reed’s father took him to the favelas of Rio De Janeiro, in order to show him the struggles of the real world.

Reed was sobered by the experience, and vowed to dedicate his considerable intelligence to the betterment of humanity. He dedicated himself to his studies, finally unlocking the potential built up inside him, and earning multiple doctorates before his 18th birthday.

As he furthered his research into adulthood, he believed he could harness deep space cosmic radiation and turn it into an endless and free form of energy. However, Reed had used up his family’s fortune to fund the research and development of a device capable of harnessing the cosmic energy, and an experimental spacecraft that could reach it. Running out of time before he’d have to turn the project over to the banks and governments who had invested in him, and worried he’d lose everything, Reed embarked on the mission early, putting himself and the rest of his four-person crew at potential risk.

Had Reed taken then time to check his work, he would have seen that the ship’s protections against the radiation were insufficient. The cosmic rays bombarded the ship, altering Reed and his team at the molecular level. They would become the Fantastic Four, with Reed known the world over as Mister Fantastic. But while their powers were great, Reed would never forgive himself for the mistake that changed them.
